If someone plans
to visit east India, the first state that comes to one’s mind is
West Bengal. With the diversities of Himalayan range on the north and
mangrove forests on the south along with Bay of Bengal; this state is
said to be the most surprising one offering all the varieties at a
single go. Here lies the beauty of Bengal and that is why it is worth
exploring.
To have a view of
the varied landscape that this state offers to its tourists, one has
to plan a long vacation here. The places to visit are plenty, but
here are some primary choices, which you cannot ignore.
Kolkata:
The cultural capital of India one has to visit not only because of
the essence of the city it offers but also the finger-licking Bengali
cuisines, which one just cannot miss when visiting Bengal. The best
part of Kolkata is even being a metropolis and one of the largest
cities of India; it is a perfect blend of nostalgia along with the
contemporary. The narrow and shabby lanes of North Kolkata along with
the old houses and some colonial structures in contrast with the wide
roads of South make it a place to explore. There are many places to
visit like the Victoria Memorial, Indian Museum, Fortg William,
Botanical Gardens, Birth place of Rabindranath Tagore and so on. Do
not miss a tram ride in this city. Best time to visit this city is
definitely during Durga Puja, which happens in October when the city
turns on its gorgeous side.
Darjeeling:
Popularly known as the queen of hills, this is the perfect summer
gate away for people. From North Jalpaiguri station one can reach
this beautiful mountain clad station by cars or by toy trains. The
tea gardens and the rhododendrons make this place beautiful along
with the ecstatic view of Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the
world. One can also enjoy a trek till Sandakphu and watch sunrise
over the Tiger Hill at the break of dawn.
Digha: The
endless waves of the Bay of Bengal unleash its true beauty here. A
few hours’ drive from the city of Kolkata and one land directly in
the lap of nature and wild waves. One can have a beautiful view of
sunrise and sunset from this place and can also explore the beaches
which continue to Mandarmani, Shankarpur and Taajpur.
Murshidabad:
Located on the banks of River Bhagirathi, this town has a huge
historical importance as it was the capital when the British used to
rule India and then they later shifted it to Kolkata. The Hazarduari
palace is a treat to the eyes due to the finesse of architecture, and
it has been turned into a museum now. Apart from this, one can visit
the Imambara, Nasipur Palace and Katra Mosque.
One can reach
West Bengal by booking a rail ticket easily and Indian railway food order has also become less hazardous these days. Do, enjoy
your trip!
